How You Can HELP
How You Can HELP
The Rails To Trails organization functions solely by volunteer help and support.  There are many ways that an individual, a family, a group, an organization, or a foundation can support this effort to maintain, enhance, improve, and expand the Rails To Trails system.

1.  Become a VOLUNTEER - Volunteers are needed to do many different jobs.  One volunteer recently stained a shed at the RTT Headquarters building at Grannas Station.  Others mow the grass along the trails (using organizational tractor/mowers).  Others help to do the Spring cleanup on the trails, such as using chain-saws to cut and remove fallen trees and limbs from the trail and RTT property.  Some help build picnic tables, shelters, benches, and pavillions.  Some plant flowers, pull weeds, prune bushes and trees, repair fences and bridges.  Others are fund-raisers and public awareness developers who call upon businesses to educate business owners and philanthropic-minded individuals, and seek donations.  Others do research about the history of the area and give educational tours for visitors.  Others search for opportunities to apply for grants and write grant proposals.  The list of needs goes on and on, and it most likely includes skills that you have.  If you wish to volunteer your time and skills to make the trail better for the future, give us a call at 814-832-2400 or email Ed Patterson at ecp3@meadwestvaco.com or Bob Goodman at bjgoo@adelphia.net.  Please label your email "Volunteer Help."

2.  Become a MEMBER - A commitment of membership is very important to the long-term care, development , and expansion of the RTT property.  Members are volunteers who are giving their time, talents, and a small annual membership fee to support the organization.  Annual membership fees are as follows:

Individual  . . . . . . . . . . . . .  $15
Family  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $20
Supporting  . . . . . . . . . . . . .$50

Example of "Donation-In-Kind"
When a large portion of our trail was completely washed away by the flooding of the Juniata River, Grannas Bros. made a very generous "donation-in-kind."  They had the resources to repair our trail and made it better than it was before, for which we are very grateful.  Better than a cash gift, they provided the equipment, materials, and labor to repair and enhance the trail property.
